Unit 3 Sound: Classwork Prompt "Bomb Dropped"
This audio is explosive, in a cool, artistic way. It starts with this heavy, metallic clattering that sounds like someone is aggressively yanking up a garage door or messing with some big machinery. Then, you get that classic, high-pitched "bomb dropping" whistle straight out of a cartoon or an old movie. The whole thing wraps up with a muffled thud and the sound of glass and metal shattering all over the place. It doesn't have that huge, cinematic bass that shakes your house, so it feels less like a real explosion and more like a "glitchy" sound effect you’d use for a sound art piece.

Unit 3 Sound: Creative Experiment Sound
"Bathroom Break" is all about messing with expectations in an unexpected place…a bathroom. I really focused on how sound bounces around to amp up the suspense. To create that sense of urgency from running to the bathroom, I actually used sounds from all around me that had nothing to do with the bathroom experience, like walking in the snow and tapping on a metal can. The only thing I did use bathroom-wise was the flushing. It starts with just a normal clanging of noises, which makes you feel secure yet tense, but then I slammed in a harsh screech to catch the listener off guard. The whole point was to showcase that not all sound has to come from its intended source to create tension, keeping the listener guessing and totally unable to expect what is next, creating a bit of anxiety through contrast. Bringing this kind of sound work into an art classroom is a game-changer for engagement. It forces students to stop just looking at art and start to listen to the world around them, making the experience way more immersive. When kids learn to mix sounds to create suspense like this, they realize how powerful audio is for storytelling and setting a mood.

I really liked the overall sound. The water effect and the clicking sounds stood out to me and made it feel more immersive.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I was thinking is that it might be interesting to add some kind of tone or melody, just to give it a bit more variation.
But overall, it sounds really good.
